There’s been a heavy focus on 2025 trends this past fortnight. I’ve been indulging in Pantone Colour of the Year and while part of me wasn’t surprised by their choice, the other part was taken that a refined and highly livable hue was selected.
It’s funny how trends work we often declare allegiance to being all in or a timeless classic. Yet subconsciously whether we like it or not elements of these trends have a way of sneaking into our homes.
Admittedly, I’m feeling a little colour fatigue - or perhaps it’s just general end of year fatigue - so thought I’d round things out by sharing highlights from an Elle Décor story I loved this week: Living room trends from designers for 2025.
With my own living room on the 2025 project list, I hope this sparks some inspiration to get the moodboards flowing over the summer break.
Living Room trends for 2025
Make it personal
In 2025, living rooms will shift towards thoughtful, personal spaces that reflect the people who live in them. Focusing on spaces that balance comfort with artistry, structure blended with softness, and nostalgia paired with modernity to create rooms that are as functional as they are beautiful. It's about designing spaces we truly enjoy—places to unwind that feel authentic and timeless.
On the colour spectrum, this really allows us to lean into those hues we love, not being restricted by what might be good for resale or what we ‘should’ have.
Jewels meet neutrals
A masterclass in creating depth and balance. Neutrals provide a calm, grounded feel whilst jewel tones - think deep bordeaux, emeralds and amethyst - add vibrancy and contrast.
The key is in restraint: these rich jewels should punctuate, not dominate, bringing the perfect touch of richness and personality to a layered, textural design.
Soft with an edge
Much like the balance of colour to create harmony, this is the pairing of textures and materials to create the same feeling - a soft fabric against glass or mixed metals against natural wood.
A balancing act that reflects personality and makes a space feel dynamic and alive whilst maintaining a lived in warmth.
Formal is back
A space for living, a space for media, I love separate spaces!
A living room that isn’t centered on the TV? I’m here for it.
This shift opens up opportunities for thoughtful spatial planning and colour schemes. By flipping the focus of the room it’s no longer about seeing the TV from every angle but instead about the mood you want to create within the space, how you want it to feel.
Curves are here to stay
They’re not new but they’re also not going anywhere. The curves of a sofa or coffee table invite comfort and create a softer more relaxed environment. In contrast, curves can feel sculptural, elevating furniture beyond pure functionality.
Whether they’re in soft tonal shades or a bold hit of colour, curves can either ground a space or make a statement - it’s all in your preference and how you style them.
